How the Onboarding Process Works

Finwise how it starts

Before you begin, it helps to know what to expect. The onboarding process is straightforward: we start with a short questionnaire about your income, savings, and goals, then schedule a consultation to review your situation. From there, you receive a written plan with clear next steps. No pressure, no jargon, just a practical sequence designed to get you moving at your own pace.

How the Process Unfolds

A realistic timeline of what happens when you begin working with Finwise, from the first conversation to the point where your plan is running on its own.

Week 1: Initial Conversation

We start with a 45-minute call where you describe your income, debts, savings habits, and what you want retirement to look like. No jargon, no pressure. You receive a short summary of what we discussed and what information we still need from you.

Weeks 2–3: Data Gathering

You send over recent statements, tax returns, and any existing investment accounts. We review your employer superannuation options and check whether you are eligible for government co-contributions. This phase is mostly administrative, but it shapes everything that follows.

Week 4: First Draft Plan

You receive a written plan with a proposed asset allocation, a savings target, and a timeline. The draft includes plain-language explanations of each recommendation, so you can see why we chose one option over another. You are encouraged to mark it up with questions.

Weeks 5–6: Revisions and Stress Tests

We adjust the plan based on your feedback and run it against a few market scenarios, including a prolonged downturn and a period of higher inflation. The goal is not to predict the future but to make sure the plan does not fall apart under reasonable pressure.

Month 2: Implementation

Once you approve the final version, we help you set up the accounts and automate contributions. This might mean opening a brokerage account, adjusting your super fund, or setting up a regular transfer into a diversified ETF. You leave with a checklist, not a mystery.

Quarterly Reviews and Beyond

Every three months we meet briefly to review progress, rebalance if needed, and update the plan as your circumstances change. After the first year, most clients need only a single annual check-in unless something major shifts in their life.

What to expect in the first weeks

A clear sequence of steps, from the first call to the first rebalancing. No jargon, no promises of quick gains.

We start with a 45-minute call where you share your current savings, debts, and income. You receive a short summary of what we discussed and what data we still need.

Within five working days you get a written plan: which accounts to open, what to transfer, and what to leave untouched. The plan includes a simple checklist, not a 40-page report.

You set up the first automatic transfer. We review the beneficiary details and the tax treatment together, so nothing is left to guesswork.

After three months we compare the actual balances with the plan. If the market moved, we adjust the contribution split rather than chasing performance.

Every six months you receive a one-page summary: what changed, what we recommend, and what you can ignore. You decide the pace, we keep the process transparent.
